  • Signs we’re acclimating to Seattle weather: The boys went outside to play this weekend…in the rain.  When we were bundling up for the walk to school this morning, I said, “You don’t need hats – it’s warm today!”  (Temp outside at the time: 51F.  This is a far cry from the bundling we did for 51F a couple of months ago.)
  • Jason accepted a new job last week, with a company for which he’s been wanting to work for several years.  He’s very excited.  I’m very excited for him.  (Well, and for us, because it will help tremendously with our debt payoff plan.)
  • Speaking of financial plans, I’ve been seeing all sorts of tutorials for making cash envelopes recently.  We love the cash envelope plan; our adherence to it is responsible for keeping us on budget.  We’d let it fall by the wayside over the past year, but we’re renewing our commitment to it.  I quite like this tutorial & template, but I don’t like that shape of envelope for holding money.  Maybe it’s the ex-bank teller in me, but I like coin envelopes for holding money; they seem more secure.  The credit union I withdraw our cash from here doesn’t have them.  (Wha-??)  So, last night, I made a template.  (If I can figure out how to put a file up here for downloads, I’ll make it into a .pdf and post it.  In the meantime, if you want it, leave me a comment with your email address, and I’ll send it to you.)

  • So, while we snickered through the CBS line-up last night (except for Accidentally on Purpose…that one’s not so funny…Jason turned on the PS2 for that half hour), I printed, snipped and glued my way to a pretty little stack of envelopes.  (I stopped short of sewing them all together.  I don’t need most of these with me most of the time.  All but one or two of them stay locked away until they’re needed.)

  • Kalen has asked to take piano lessons, so he can learn to play Star Wars music.  One-track mind, that kiddo.  Still, we’re jumping on the interest.  I know most piano students start at age 7, but I’m going to talk to the music teacher at school and see what she thinks.  We’ve also taken the opportunity to encourage Nicolas to play, and he’s more open to the idea than he has been in the past.  Step 1, though…call a piano tuner.  The sounds coming out of that instrument right now are painful.
